My zombie morning routine and a STARBUCKS GIVEAWAY!!

Posted by Magdelyn on October 25th, 2009. Filed under: Fun Stuff!, Giveaway, yum things!.

Sadly it’s Sunday evening, which means Monday is just a few short hours away. In just a few short hours, I am going to begin what I like to call my “Zombie Routine”.

Because I wear scrubs to work and I shower the night before, I have the luxury of sleeping in just a tad bit longer than some of my other friends. My alarm usually goes off around 7am and I hit snooze once (okay, sometimes twice), but I’m out of bed by 7:20. Since the temperature has dropped, I’m beginning to get into hibernation mode when I grumble and groan and pretty much let everyone (my fiancé and the cats) know my resentment toward getting out of bed. After pulling on some scrubs, pulling my hair up into a pony and throwing on some makeup, I’m out the door. Luckily, I work just a short bus ride from home so I can be there in about 15 minutes unless the bus gods are against me.

Once I’m at work my morning routine is something like this: 1. Turn on & log into computer. 2. Open necessary work programs and email. 3. Log into twitter. Spend the next few minutes reading & responding to tweets. 4. Log into Facebook. Read through status updates and creep catch up with friends’ lives. 5. Check Twitter again. The exception to this rule is the days my boss is working, then I have to be on my best behaviour. No Twitter, Facebook, or reading & commenting on blogs for me! If I didn’t have my iPhone handy to fill in the void, my day would DRAG.

By this time I’ve managed to kill about 30-45 minutes of my day (unless my boss is there). I’m still not feeling totally human yet either so I know it’s time to head downstairs to Starbucks to pick up my daily dose of espresso. I’m such a regular there that all the baristas know me by name and know my order by heart. This is probably a bad thing, but I’d like to think it’s just convenient. It’s after my cup of coffee that I feel the transition from Zombie Maggie to normal Maggie is complete.

So you’re probably wondering what does this have to do with anything, particularly a Starbucks Giveaway. Well, dear readers, it just so happens that I’m partnering with Starbucks and their new Energy + Coffee Campaign to host awesome giveaway to turn you into a coffee addict bring you some cool stuff!

I’ve been busted playing a computer game at my desk by an old boss who announced it to the whole room.

I also filled a co-worker’s cubicle with filled bankers’ boxes while he was at lunch. I had some help filling the cube, but he didn’t have help emptying it.

  2. Melinda

I get caught on Twitter or Google Reader by my boss pretty much daily. Good thing she is a good sport about it.
Pranks are pretty much the office norm around here. The best one ever was when a co-worker went on vacation and we all worked very hard to cover every single metal surface in his office with old outdated business card magnets. Sadly if you look at his ceiling to this day (4 years later) you can still see some of those magnets wedged into the light fixture.

  3. Becky

I was caught by my boss once when I was reading a blog, commenting on another blog, and then switching back to the Old Navy website. He was cool about it but I was so embarrassed!!!

  4. Doniree

So it’s not really a prank, but we tend to hang posters in each other’s cubes when people are out on vacation, etc. Pictures of Zac Efron and the Jonas Brothers, decorations of unicorns, etc.

Yeah, wild and crazy I know :)

I figured this was a funny story. When I worked at this hotel in San Diego, every year they had this big christmas party. They would give out two drink tickets per person so you wouldn’t drink too much but you know that really doesn’t stop people from getting totally cashed. So I think I had my flask with me but I kept drinking someones goldschlager(you know that one with the bits of gold in it haha)…needless to say I got WASTED. All my managers were there including the General Manager of the hotel. Not only did I end up telling my co-worker that I had a crush on him several times (WHICH he completely remembered the next morning to my embarrassment) I made him dance with me and we ended up falling on the dance floor. I then won $1000 in cash and had to go up and claim it. I tried as best I could to slur out a thank you because I didn’t want the General Manager to know. This is a real story by the way.

Soooo since I don’t really work, I get to do whatever I want in class. It’s still pretty embarrassing though when the professor catches you on facebook or something when you’re supposed to be busy taking notes… Oops.

  7. DG

q3. I would have a Lady Gaga themed dance party whenever I got too bored!

Well last year I thought it would be funny to play a joke on one of the doctors I used to work with. For privacy reasons let’s just call him “Dr. K.” Anywho during work late at night I thought it wouldl be funny to see if I could scare him. So I put on all black clothes and a ski mask and ran into his office/rad room and yelled “Time to meet your maker 4 eyes!” What happened next I didn’t expect to happen he took his chair and smashed the window open and screamed at the top of his lungs “Sweet Lord Somebody Save Me!! Ahhhhhh!!!!” I then told me it’s just me and we all laughed and went back to our daily routine.

One of my bosses caught me reading a blog once; he didn’t really say anything just looked at me a tad confused.

To stir things up? Well, I sometimes walk around without my heels on when NO ONE is in the office, so that would be fun to do when people are here. That and sit in the break room to work while watching streaming netflix movies. that would make me quite happy =)

He has yet to get me back. MUAHAHAHAHA!

I really like to have tv on in the background when I work on somewhat mind-numbing things and I totally got caught by my boss one day doing that. I would typically turn the computer when I did it so no one could see but this day I was def not feeling well and jsut totally forgot. Needless to say, I didn’t do much tv watching again after that.

And pranks??!?! my office doesn’t do those. wish they would… haha

  13. thatShortChick

If I could get away with something at work, scotch-free, I would probably vandalize a couple of the managers’ desk space. Trust me when I say, a couple of them DESERVE IT.

  14. Chrissy

I think it would have been me writing about my sucky job on my blog and the screen froze and my boss saw it. Didn’t get fired though so that’s good!

  15. Greg

In residency, I received a performance evaluation that said “Greg left a procedure during a precarious time and was later found sunning himself on the Quad.”

Prank: I hazed a junior radiology resident on his first call. I was out drinking with some buds. On the way home late at night, I was riding passenger with my head out the window to simulate a helicopter. I made up a doctor’s name and said I was about to land with a pair of twins that needed an emergent ultrasound. With no time to spare, I told him to meet me on the helipad with the ultrasound machine. He asked me where the helipad was, and I screamed at him and told him he’s an idiot. He ended up lugging the big-ass US machine up there and figured it out when the helicopter was perched quietly on the deck.

most humiliating moment at work was when boss man caught me perusing the net and reading up on Gossip Girl. not only did I look like a teeny bopper but he didn’t like my project idea so he gave me a true talking to.

Starting an Office-esque dance party would be a nice break from our cubicles and a great way to stir things up. :)

  19. MissB

The best prank I’ve played on a coworker was making their screen upside down (not the monitor, the screen). They’re not too tech savy sooo it was pretty funny to watch them try to figure out how to turn it back

I worked at a retail shop in a mall. Lots of people wanted to work at this shop so we got resumes submitted all the time.

I pranked a coworker by putting a really bogus resume in the “to be looked at” pile. The resume included a poorly drawn dolphin which illustrated the fake applicant’s ability (or inability) to draw.

The name on the fake resume was a male name of the girl being pranked (e.g., Robyn = Robert). There was even a photo attached to the resume which was a photo of the coworker, but I added a cap and facial hair in Photoshop.

Our coworker believed it for about a week. So funny!!

  21. Carrie

i’ve totally been busted for spending way too much time on internet message boards instead of doing work.

  22. Matt

I know we’re supposed to only answer one question, but I felt answering two. Sue me. :-)

    1. “Have you ever been busted doing something you’re not supposed to by your boss?”

At a part-time job, years ago, I was bored one day so I went to sit in a closet so I could play on my phone and just relax. Guess who suddenly needed something from that closet shortly after?

    2. “If you could get away with it scotch free, what is one thing you’ve always wanted to do at the office to stir things up a bit?”

I’ve always wanted to get drunk while at work. Handling support issues with clients over the phone would be *very* interesting after that.

If I can recall a prank for #3, I’ll add that too.

  23. Akirah

I work with kids…not in an office…but one thing I sometimes wouldn’t mind doing is taking a nap. But unfortunately, I can’t sleep while there are three children in my care. So I just plow thru it. Ha!

  24. Lollygagger

One thing I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do at work is take a nap under my desk in my cube Costanza style. And while that wouldn’t necessarily stir things up it might get me moving more!

  25. Eve

my coworker is so annoying and such an ass. She told my boss that I was surfing the internet once and got me in trouble. One time I heard our boss say that he thinks that she has a crush on another intern. So One day I went to JCPenney, bought one of those $0.97 panties, put some glue in the crotch area and stuck in on her desk. The guys she liked saw it and then she bursted into teas about how she doesnt know where that came from. It was so funny cuz no one believed her. I know it was mean, but she has set me up plenty of times.

The best prank I ever pulled at work involved my store manager. During my sophomore year of college I worked at Circuit City, I was a tech specialist and was in charge of swapping the notebook displays. We had a fake notebook enclosure that was discontinued and was going to be thrown out, so I took the fake display and took it up to customer service. My store manger was at the register and as I walked up I pretended to trip and dropped the display, which smashed completely. My manager freaked out until he saw my technology manager laughing at him. I had to clean up the mess, but it was worth it.
