Unlike many of my Catholic buddies who went and got ashes today, I did not. I forgot (sorry mom). I decided my penance for my blunder was to give up two things instead of just the required one. So for the next 40 days I will be giving up:
-All forms of fast food (this mainly means Taco Bell and Sheetz since those are the only places I go) and soda (including diet)
-Procrastinating (I need the motivation)
Yeah, I know there are loopholes in the system and you are allowed a reprieve on certain days, but I’m going full force on this one. No excuses. So what was I doing instead of getting ashes like the good Catholic girl I was brought up to be? Getting my hair done:

I’ve never had to give up food that I like or have the habit of having. I did miss and even dream of chocolate cake when I was in Africa back in 2000. I was quite amused by that because I had never thought I would dream of such a thing.
Good luck on the challenge you’ve set yourself and nice haircut. See you on twitter

The hair looks much nicer than the black smudge on the forehead anyway. Plus hair that color pretty much screams Irish Catholic so the ashes may have been redundant.
