Weekend Roundup!

Posted by Magdelyn on April 21st, 2009. Filed under: Fun Stuff!.

Sadly, another weekend has come and gone. I hate seeing them go, they’re always far too short. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind working 10 hour days if it meant I could get an extra day off.

Friday’s plans included drinks with friends and seeing a local band, I Fight Dragons at the Cubby Bear. It was my first time seeing them live and they were A-MAZING!! I never dance in public, and I was dancing my ASS off with my friends (yes, alcohol helped). My fiancé and friend Thomas pulled the plug on the night before I got too crazy. (side note: is it weird that I hang out with my personal trainer outside of training?)

Saturday’s agenda: Baking with Jamie, Emily, and Brittainy. First, can I please tell you I now have 15 pounds of fondant in my refrigerator right now? FIFTEEN POUNDS!!!  I ordered four. But whatever, I only paid $20 for it, and it will probably last me through the next 6 months. Who has a birthday coming up?? Anyone..?? Bueller..??

Anyway, we made some little red velvet cupcake things, and a 3 layer cake:

Now I’m a bit biased, but I think its quite lovely!! 3 yummy layers of yellow and red velvet cake. And it was our first time experimenting with fondant.

Those flowers? Yep, we made those out of fondant too. Although I wouldn’t recommend eating them. Think sugary play-doh. If that’s your kinda thing though, have at it.

Jamie will probably hate me for posting this but she covered that little guy in fondant and made the heart. SO CUTE (and tasty)!

Even though Sunday was only yesterday it feels like a billion years ago. The only thing I remember doing was going to personal training. I still feel like a lazy fool. Maybe it was all the cake.

So, how was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? Consume any goodies? Make a fool of yourself?

After my own weekend of baking and decorating cupcakes, I just heard about an organization called “Drop In & Decorate” where you decorate cookies, etc. and take them to a local charity or shelter. I’m thinking we should all get together and do it – it sounds like a cool cause and a good excuse to decorate.

The rose on the cake looks amazing! I wish I had the patience to decorate cakes (Ace of Cakes style, of course).
